CYCLORAMA

A cyclorama is a cylindrical panoramic painting designed to provide a viewer standing in the middle of the cylinder with a 360 degree view of the painting.  The painting revolves while the viewer is seated in front of it.  The effect is that the viewer feels as if they are standing in the center of a historic event or famous place.  These paintings were very popular at the end of the 19th century with thousands in existence, but today only about 30 paintings survive.  The biggest of all of them, "The Battle of Atlanta" is located in the Cyclorama Museum in downtown Atlanta.  It is something you don't want to miss.
